Luxurious Accommodation

With 9 guest rooms within the Castle itself and a further 18 rooms in the grounds, our rooms really do offer something for everyone.  Almost all of our Castle rooms have 4-poster beds, and some have features such as window seats set into the 7ft thick walls, spa bath or even a sauna.  Our CastleView Rooms, which, as the name suggests, are situated in the grounds of the Castle.

This is a conversion and extension of a listed building which is situated only 80 metres away, and has commanding views up to the main castle itself.  Some of these rooms are useful if you require twin bedded rooms, or family accommodation.

Location

Located only 25 miles from Newcastle Airport, Langley Castle is a luxury venue for all occasions. 14th Century Langley Castle is set in a 10-acre woodland estate in the Northumberland Valley of the South Tyne.  Work started on the construction of Langley Castle in 1350 for Sir Thomas de Lucy, (who was one of King Edward III’s favourite knights), to protect him and his family during times of war with the Scots.

The Story So Far

14th Century Langley Castle is set in a 10-acre woodland estate in the Northumberland Valley of the South Tyne.  Work started on the construction of Langley Castle in 1350 for Sir Thomas de Lucy, (who was one of King Edward III’s favourite knights), to protect him and his family during times of war with the Scots.  By 1405 Langley Castle was a roofless shell having been gutted by fire.

In 1882 a local historian and former High Sheriff of Northumberland, Cadwallader Bates, purchased the Castle, and in 1895 began the sympathetic restoration. Unfortunately, Cadwallader died during the restoration in 1902, and his wife, Josephine d’Echarvines, completed the task in 1914 where she, and her family remained until 1932.  Since then, Langley Castle has been used as a barracks during the second world war, a girls’ boarding school in the 1950’s and then for medieval banquets in the 70’s and 80’s.
